Porsche has instructed teams competing with the Type-992 911 GT3 R to run without ABS and traction control systems “until further notice” as it works to implement a fix regarding issues to the car’s wheel speed measurement system.

The German marque’s new-for-2023 challenger is competing in multiple championships this weekend, most notably racing in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup opener at Monza and the Nürburgring 24 Qualifiers.

In a statement supplied to Sportscar365, Porsche states that teams are advised to run without the two driver aids systems “until further notice.”

The manufacturer goes on to explain that it uncovered problems to the regulations of both the ABS and TC system due to incorrect measurements of the rear wheel speeds.

“Porsche Motorsport has informed all customer teams and owners that until further notice all Porsche 911 GT3R (992) type cars must not be operated while the ABS and TC control system are active,” the statement read.

“The background for this is the ongoing analysis of anomalies identified in the wheel speed measurement system, which can lead to the erroneous measurement of the rear wheel speeds, and in turn cause errors in the regulation of the ABS and TC systems.”

Porsche added that it has identified and implemented a solution to the problem, but that it requires the installation of new parts to make sure both systems are once again fit for use.

A Porsche spokesperson clarified to Sportscar365 that teams are recommended to compete at this weekend’s events without the systems active until it can be assured that the new parts have been installed.

“Porsche Motorsport has successfully worked on a mechanical solution to secure the right wheel speed measurement under all circumstances,” the manufacturer said.

“After the installation of the solution the use of the vehicle, including the use of the ABS and TC control system, is released again without any restriction.

“The provision of parts for the events GTWC Europe Monza, 24h Qualifying Race Nordschleife, Michelin Le Mans Cup Barcelona for this weekend is already being implemented.

“The further implementation for the following events is currently being planned.”
