Starworks Motorsport announced Sunday the signing of Isaac Tutumlu, who will be part of the team’s Prototype Challenge lineup in next year’s TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.
The 28-year-old Spaniard, of Kurdish heritage, is set to make his U.S. racing debut after winning the 2013 IberGT Championship and SuperGT Spanish Cup.
“I am very happy to begin a new racing career era in the U.S., proudly representing Kurdistan through a successful team such as Starworks Motorsport,” Tutumlu said. “Peter Baron is a very professional team manager and his only objective is the same one I have, the victory, so I think we will put the things together to become champions.”
Team owner Peter Baron added: “We have introduced a number of successful drivers to endurance racing in the U.S. and I’m confident Isaac will make an immediate favorable impression.”
Tutumlu will get his first taste of the Oreca FLM09 car in January’s Roar Before the Rolex 24. His co-driver for the 10-round championship has yet to be announced.
The Florida-based squad, meanwhile, will be taking part in this week’s pre-season test at Daytona with a PC and DP car, with the team’s full 2014 program still to be announced.
