Level 5 Submits Two Prototype Challenge Entries

Level 5 Motorsports has thrown its hat into the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship for 2014.

The four-time American Le Mans Series championship-winning squad confirmed to Sportscar365 Monday that it has submitted two full-season entries for the Prototype Challenge class.

Level 5 made its ALMS debut in the spec prototype category in 2010, winning five races en route to the inaugural class championship.

Since then, the Scott Tucker-owned squad has focused its efforts on the P2 class but purchased three new Oreca FLM09 cars in anticipation for a possible switch back to the class.

“We are developing a new division of Level 5 for customer-based programs and see how 2014 shakes out and let the dust settle a little bit,” team manager David Stone told Sportscar365. “But our goal, any time Level 5 goes racing, is to win races and the championship.”

Stone said the team has already paid its entry fees but confirmation of a full-season program will be dependent on securing funding from customers.

Level 5 put its team on display at Sebring this weekend during the TUDOR Championship pre-season testing and received multiple inquiries, according to the team manager.

“Level 5 is in a unique position as a team,” Stone said. “We have sponsorship available to our customers through our partners and sponsors. It has to be the right situation, but we definitely can help out a qualified effort with many of the services we have.”

It has yet to be determined if Tucker will be part of the driving lineup in the planned two-car PC program.

“I don’t think it’s something Scott is looking to do full-time but depending on what kind of customer program we come up, he could maybe be a filler here or there when it suits him and if it fits with somebody’s program,” Stone added. “I see that as being a possibility.”

Level 5 is among a number of PC teams currently searching for funded drivers to participate in the series next year. Full-season entry requests close on Friday.
