2027 Road America Date Moved Back by One Week

The date for next year’s Motul Endurance SportsCar Grand Prix at Road America has been pushed back by one week, officials from IMSA and the Wisconsin track announced on Tuesday.

Originally announced for July 30-Aug. 1, the new date of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship round, which will again double as a leg of the Michelin Endurance Cup, will now be Aug. 5-8.

The move is believed to prevent a clash with the Oshkosh air show, the world’s largest annual aviation celebration and fly-in convention, which has been confirmed for the previous weekend.

“The new August dates reduce overlap with other major events across Wisconsin during one of the busiest parts of summer,” explained track president and general manager Mike Kertscher. “Announcing the dates now gives everyone more time to adjust their plans.”

The change also includes races for Michelin Pilot Challenge, Porsche Carrera Cup North America and Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America, which have all also been confirmed as part of the event.

The adjustment, however, does now create a date clash with the DTM round at Zandvoort, with the two series not having any overlapping weekends for the last several years, which previously allowed current GTP points leader Jack Aitken to contest the German-based championship, and more recently, BMW’s Marco Wittmann.

“Fan turnout at Road America has grown substantially the past few years with an all-time record for our first six-hour endurance race earlier this month,” said IMSA President John Doonan.

“We’re already looking forward to returning one weekend later next year and we are confident that by giving the loyal Road America fans enough runway to make or alter their plans, we’ll see another amazing turnout for the Motul SportsCar Endurance Grand Prix weekend in 2027.”
