BMW will again take its Intercontinental GT Challenge campaign one race at a time despite heading into the GT3 globe-trotting series as defending champions.
The German manufacturer claimed its first IGTC crown, courtesy of wins in four of the five races, including triumphs in the Nürburgring 24, Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour and Suzuka 1000km.
While Team WRT masterminded the wins in three of the races, BMW M Motorsport director Andreas Roos said it remains to be seen if the Vincent Vosse-led squad will again contest the majority of the season.
WRT is set to defend its Bathurst 12 Hour victory this weekend with a pair of BMW M4 GT3 EVOs, but is not again likely to be present at the Nürburgring 24, which serves as the second round this year.
The third round of the season, the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, however, will see a significant presence from the Belgian squad courtesy of its GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS campaign, although questions remain on the final two rounds at Suzuka and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where it won both in 2025.
“We don’t know yet, to be honest,” Roos told Sportscar365 when asked about WRT’s IGTC program.
“As we did in the past years, Bathurst is for sure a very important race for us, also because we have a strong Australian market for BMW M. This is why we always love to be there; it’s a great race.
“Also it’s the start of the SRO season. We already started [BMW’s season] in Dubai for the 24 Hour race with a double victory.
“Then we take it from there. It’s Bathurst, it’s Nürburgring, it’s Spa and then we see how the season developments.”
Roos said BMW’s GT3 success globally, which also saw titles in GTWC Europe and America, has brought significant attention to the car.
“We have a lot of requests worldwide,” he said. “At the moment we’re basically sold out with cars. We’ll produce another batch of cars now.
“The car proved to be very successful. I think last year was an amazing year for the M4 GT3 EVO, winning so many championships and races.
“It makes the car attractive, which is very good for us because we love to see a lot of cars.
“Last year when you looked at Spa, I think we had 11 cars in total on the grid. It’s nice to see.”
When asked if they feel confident of being able to repeat the success from 2025, which included winning SRO’s GT4 Manufacturer Ranking, Roos indicated they have to keep their feet on the ground.
“You have to be realistic at the end,” he said. “A year like we had last year in GT3 or also when you look at Kelvin van der Linde’s first year with us, it was incredible.
“We’ve all been in motorsport long enough that these years it’s very difficult to repeat easily.
“For sure we will do everything and fight hard to make it as successful of a year as 2025 and maybe even better.
“But the competition is super high and super strong. It’s difficult.”
