REVIEW: Driving on the Edge, Second Edition

Back by popular demand, Michael Krumm’s highly acclaimed book, “Driving on the Edge: The Art and Science of Racing Driving” has been released in a revised and updated second edition, following the first edition’s sellout.

Penned by the 2011 FIA GT1 World Champion, who has been a NISMO-contracted driver for the last 17 years, the technical handbook provides a detailed look at all aspects of racing from the driver’s eye.

The 192-page book is filled with anecdotes from Krumm’s early days in the open-wheel ranks, and the lessons he learned over the years in race craft, preparation and car setup, and how it’s adapted to multiple racing disciplines.

Each topic is meticulously covered and includes real-life data and graphs to help fully immerse yourself in the concepts. Input from longtime race engineer and designer Ricardo Divila is also utilized in the car setup chapter.

Krumm’s book goes beyond technical guidance, with topics such as physical fitness and securing a race seat also covered, making it a must-read not only for all up-and-coming drivers, but also seasoned veterans that could learn a trick or two.

While geared primarily for drivers, the book, which features a forward by Krumm’s longtime friend and ex-Formula One driver Pedro de la Rosa, can be a valuable tool for others in the motorsports industry as well.

While the hardback copy edition is back in print, an electronic version for tablets is also be available via the Apple and Android stores in the coming weeks.
