Trouble Finds Hartley in Hour 10 at Daytona

Problems continue to mount up for the leading runners in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, as the No. 22 Tequila Patron ESM Nissan Onroak DPi of Brendon Hartley collided with the TRG Porsche 911 GT3 R in the 10th hour.

The 2015 FIA World Endurance champion had just pitted the ESM Nissan from the lead and was struggling to generate heat into his tires on the wet track when he glanced off the side of Wolf Henzler’s No. 991 Porsche exiting Turn 6 and spun into the outside wall.

Hartley attempted to bring the car back to the pits, but ground to a halt shortly before the Bus Stop with steering damage, bringing out the seventh full course caution of the race.

Wayne Taylor Racing’s No. 10 Cadillac DPi-V.R driven by Ricky Taylor still holds the overall lead heading into the 11th hour.

Taylor stayed aboard the car during the team’s most recent pit stop on lap 293.

Joao Barbosa’s No. 5 Action Express Cadillac and the No. 90 Visit Florida No. 90 Riley Mk. 30 Gibson of Renger van der Zande ran second and third at the hour mark, one lap behind the leading WTR car.

Pato O’Ward and the No. 38 Performance Tech Motorsports hold a six-lap advantage in the Prototype Challenge class over Gusatavo Yacaman for BAR1 Motorsports.

GT Le Mans continues to be a stiff contest, led by Joey Hand and Tony Kanaan in the No. 66 and No. 69 Ford GTs. Nine cars remain within one lap of the class leaders in the class.

Andy Lally holds the lead in GT Daytona in the No. 93 Acura NSX GT3 for Michael Shank Racing on the car’s competition debut, ahead of Christopher Mies in the No. 29 Land Motorsport Audi R8 LMS and Jeff Segal in the second Acura.
