Mahy Now Awake, Remains in Hospital after Spa 24 Accident

Marcus Mahy is now conscious following a serious accident in the early stages of the Total 24 Hours of Spa.

The British driver had to be airlifted to a hospital in Liege after his Kessel Racing Ferrari was involved in an incident at Stavelot with another Ferrari, driven by Vadim Kogay.

The race was red-flagged for the helicopter to land on the track. It’s understood the 53-year-old was put in a medically induced coma overnight but has since been awoken.

According to a statement from the SRO, Mahy remains in intensive care, although he is reacting to impulses and is able to move all of his limbs. He is expected to undergo surgery on his neck in the coming days.

Mahy’s shunt was just one of many accidents in this year’s race, which also sent Tim Mullen and Andrew Howard to the hospital for precautionary checks. They have since been released.
