This weekend’s Blancpain Endurance Series season finale at the Nürburgring will bring Harold Primat’s 17-year motorsport career to an end.

The German round of the European GT championship will see Primat climb aboard the No. 84 Bentley Team HTP Continental GT3 one last time before hanging up his helmet.

The 40-year-old enjoyed a diverse career, from his late start in single-seaters through the sports-prototype ranks via a works Aston Martin Racing seat to his current spell in GTs.

“After 17 years I feel like now is the right time to step away from competitive racing,” Primat said.

“There will be opportunities to do one-off events, but if I can’t commit fully and properly to something then I don’t think it’s worthwhile for myself, the team or my co-drivers.”

The Swiss drivers’ partner is currently expecting their first child, which he feels also played a part in the decision.

“I’ve got a couple of things lined up that will hopefully keep me involved in motor racing, although they’re still a long way down the road,” he concluded.

Together with teammates Vincent Abril and Mike Parisy, Primat currently lies seventeenth in the BES Pro Cup standings; the trio finished the recent Total 24 Hours of Spa a strong fifth in class.
