Lamborghini Confirms 2016 GT3 Junior Drivers

Lamborghini Squadra Corse has confirmed an expanded lineup of drivers for its GT3 Junior Program, which will see a total of 19 drivers, between the ages of 20 and 35, take part in the program, including two Americans and notable involvement in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Launched in 2015, the young driver program featured eight drivers, the majority of whom competed in the Blancpain Endurance Series with the factory Grasser Racing Team effort.

This year has seen a significant increase, with 40 of the new Lamborghini Huracan GT3s having been sold to customers. It’s created a higher demand for participants in the program, which includes testing and development sessions at Vallelunga.

Remarkably, 13 of the drivers have graduated from the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series (North America, Europe, Asia) to the various customer-based GT3 programs for 2016.

“As Lamborghini Squadra Corse we have a strong commitment to supporting young promise in the world of Gran Turismo,” said Head of Lamborghini Motorsport Giorgio Sanna. “The successful sales we have been experiencing with the Huracán GT3 this year have given us the opportunity to support a larger number of drivers.

“We are very proud that we have 13 drivers from our 2015 Super Trofeo series who are going to participate in the world’s most important GT championships supported by Squadra Corse, which means our youth program is working exactly the way we wanted.”

Fabio Babini, Mirko Bortolotti, Giovanni Venturini and Adrian Zaugg, meanwhile, all remain as Lamborghini GT3 factory drivers for 2016.
