Doherty Leads CTSC Practice in Mixed Conditions at Road America

Steven Doherty paced Friday’s practice for the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge ahead of the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America.

The two 45-minute sessions were held in mixed conditions, as the weather shifted from sunny in the morning to overcast, then raining in the afternoon.

Doherty posted a best time of 2:22.205 in GS, driving the No. 41 Doran Racing Nissan 370Z he shares with Nic Hammann. Both drivers are in their home race; Doherty hails from Plainfield, Ill. and Hammann from Elkhart Lake.

The team’s second car, the No. 14 Nissan 370Z driven by Brad Jaeger and BJ Zacharias, was second and the No. 13 Rum Bum Racing Porsche 911 of Hugh and Matt Plumb third.

Ryan Eversley led in ST, at 2:30.717 in the No. 93 HART Honda Civic Si he shares with Chad Gilsinger.

With conditions worsening in the second session, session leaders then were Billy Johnson at 2:26.313 in the No. 15 Multimatic Motorsports Ford Shelby GT350R-C in GS, and Corey Lewis at 2:33.424 in the No. 36 Strategic Wealth Racing Porsche Cayman in ST.

A heavy accident occurred in the second session, involving Tim Probert in the No. 65 Murillo Racing BMW 328i at the Kink.

Probert has been taken to an area hospital to undergo further evaluation. As of 12:40 p.m. CT, IMSA provided an update that Probert is awake and alert, and undergoing evaluation.

Qualifying is set from 3:10 to 3:55 p.m. this afternoon, although further rain is expected throughout the afternoon.
