The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge will race on the streets of Detroit next year as part of a GS class-only race.

Announced during Friday’s IMSA ‘State of the Sport’ address at Road America, the series is set to hold its first street circuit race since 2010 at Circuit Trois-Rivières when it was under Grand-Am sanctioning.

The June 2-3 event will feature GS class competitors only, with the Lime Rock Park event being reserved for TCR entries to balance the season with ten rounds for each class.

The GS cars at Detroit essentially takes the place of the WeatherTech Championship, which will forgo the street race next year.

The remainder of the Pilot Challenge schedule remains unchanged from recent years except for the return of Indianapolis Motor Speedway in place of Mid-Ohio, which has dropped off both WeatherTech Championship and Pilot Challenge schedules.

The event at the Brickyard will be four hours in length, as well as the season-opener at Daytona.

There are also several date changes, including WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca now being in mid-May, as well as moving the events at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Lime Rock Park one week back in July.

The season-ending event at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta will take place two weeks later than this year.
