Filipe Albuquerque’s late lap put the No. 5 Action Express Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R on the top of the time charts in the morning warmup for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Detroit.
The Portuguese driver narrowly edged Juan Pablo Montoya in the second-place Acura ARX-05 for Acura Team Penske by a margin of just 0.035 seconds. Jonathan Bomarito was third for Mazda Team Joest, a further 0.192 seconds behind.
Cadillac took the next two positions with Jordan Taylor fourth for defending race winners Wayne Taylor Racing and Felipe Nasr in fifth for AXR.
The polesitting No. 22 Nissan Onroak DPi of Johannes van Overbeek and Pipo Derani was just 13th fastest in the 14-car Prototype class field with van Overbeek at the controls in the 20-minute session.
GT Daytona class honors went to Mario Farnbacher who is deputizing for Alvaro Parente alongside Katherine Legge this weekend in the No. 86 Acura NSX GT3 for Meyer Shank Racing.
Farnbacher was 0.070 seconds faster than second-place Kyle Marcelli in the No. 14 Lexus RC F GT3 for 3GT Racing, while Wolf Henzler made it three different marques in the top three in the No. 16 Porsche 911 GT3 R for Wright Motorsports.
Jack Hawksworth for 3GT and Jeroen Bleekemolen in the Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 completed the top five, which was covered by 0.134 seconds in the warmup.
The session ran without major incident.
The 100-minute Chevrolet Sports Car Classic will be televised live on FS2 starting at 12:30 p.m. ET.
