Algarve Pro Racing will operate CrowdStrike Racing’s new LMP2 effort in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship next year.
Run under the CrowdStrike Racing with Algarve Pro Racing banner, the No. 04 Oreca 07 Gibson will be driven by George Kurtz, Ben Hanley and Matt McMurry for the four Michelin Endurance Cup races, with ex-Formula 1 driver Esteban Gutierrez completing the lineup for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
It will mark Kurtz’s LMP2 debut after contesting the four long-distance endurance races with the now-defunct CORE autosport the last two years with success, including class victory at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
“This is a big step forward for the growth of CrowdStrike Racing,” Kurtz said. “I really enjoy long-distance endurance racing and the challenges it presents.
“These races will test the team and drivers on the same track used by some of the top competitors in the world.
“The team aspect of endurance racing is important to me – for success to be achieved, everyone must do their job. It’s one way the world of business matches the world of racing. I can’t wait to get started with our new team.”
CrowdStrike with APR recently completed a shakedown at Apex Motor Club in Phoenix, the location of Algarve Pro’s North American base.
The Portuguese squad, run by Stewart and Samantha Cox, had been eyeing an expanded effort in the WeatherTech Championship, having previously contested races under the G-Drive Racing banner prior to government sanctions to Russia.
More recently, it had since contested full seasons of the FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series.
