AO Racing has announced the return of its GTD Pro and LMP2 entries to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for next year, although fell short of confirming that its ‘Rexy’-liveried machine will be a Porsche 911 GT3 R for a third consecutive season.

Additionally, drivers have yet to be announced for the two-car program.

The Illinois-based team heads into next weekend’s Motul Petit Le Mans leading the GTD Pro standings with Laurin Heinrich, having scored three class wins and two poles.

Its No. 99 Oreca 07 Gibson, sporting a ‘Spike’ the dragon livery, has earned four poles and one podium finish in the Pro-Am enforced prototype ranks with Paul-Loup Chatin and PJ Hyett.

AO’s GT entry has been a Porsche for the last two seasons, although team principal Gunnar Jeannette denied rumors of a switch to a Ford Mustang GT3.

“It’s a little bit surreal to think that the 2024 season is almost over and that we head into Petit Le Mans leading the GTD Pro championship,” said Jeannette.

“The team has had a lot of growth this year, and it’s been a massive effort from everyone involved to get to where we are. We are looking forward to building on all of that work and rolling out at Daytona in 2025 with two cars that are capable of winning their class.

“The fans have really embraced Spike, Rexy, and Roxy this year for which we are extremely grateful. It’s so much fun to see families and young children get so enthusiastic about both the cars and characters. We can’t wait to build more on that support nationwide across the IMSA calendar.”

IMSA, meanwhile, has yet to confirm either of the AO entries, which is expected to come later today.
