AWA will campaign a pair of Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs in the GTD category of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2024 and 2025.
The Canadian squad, which is currently active in the LMP3 class, will form the sole representation for Chevrolet’s new-for-2024 GT3 challenger in the GTD class for the first year of competition.
It joins a previously confirmed two-car GTD Pro effort by Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsport, bringing the total number of Z06 GT3.Rs on next year’s WeatherTech Championship grid to four.
“We are happy to welcome AWA to the Corvette Racing family,” said Christie Bagne, Corvette Z06 GT3.R program manager.
“It was important for us to select a highly competitive and collaborative team to be our first representative in the WeatherTech Championship’s GTD class.
“AWA is a fantastic choice. The team has a proven capability of winning races in multiple sports car categories and series.
“Our goal is to help AWA compete for championships and race wins with the Z06 GT3.R in 2024 and beyond.”
AWA, which first revealed its GTD plans to Sportscar365 in June, debuted in the WeatherTech Championship last year fielding Duqueine D08 Nissans in the LMP3 class.
It took a class victory at the Rolex 24 at Daytona earlier this year.
“I am honored to have the opportunity for AWA to represent Corvette in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship,” said team owner and technical director Andrew Wojteczko.
“I have the utmost respect for the people involved and am looking forward to doing our part to help secure results for the Z06 GT3.R.”
The driver lineup for AWA’s GTD effort will be announced at a later date.
