Eduardo Barrichello will replace Rory van der Steur for this weekend’s Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, reprising the driver lineup that scored a LMGT3 class podium in July’s FIA World Endurance Championship round in Sao Paulo.
Confirmed by Van der Steur Racing via social media on Monday, the 23-year-old Brazilian, the son of ex-Formula 1 veteran Rubens Barrichello, will make his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut in the team’s No. 19 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo alongside Aston Martin factory driver Valentin Hasse-Clot and Bronze-rated Anthony McIntosh.
Barrichello, who also scored the LMGT3 Hyperpole for the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo, will fill in for van der Steur, who is recovering from a mountain biking accident.
The GTD class entry, which was seen last time out at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, is entered only for the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup races.
The same driver trio are again entered in the 6 Hours of Fuji WEC round later this month, in Racing Spirit of Leman’s Aston Martin.
