Ferrari factory driver Sam Bird will complete Scuderia Corsa’s lineup for the Rolex 24 at Daytona, joining defending GT Daytona class champions Alessandro Balzan and Christina Nielsen, as well as Matteo Cressoni in the team’s Ferrari 488 GT3 car.
Bird, who made his sports car racing debut at Daytona three years ago, claimed two GTE-Pro class victories in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2016, in his first year with the Italian manufacturer.
Daytona will mark his debut at the wheel of the 488 GT3 variant, which is also set for its first outing in the Florida endurance classic.
Scuderia Corsa claimed victory in the car’s North American debut in last year’s Twelve Hours of Sebring with Balzan, Nielsen and Jeff Segal.
“With this driver lineup and the proven success of the 488 GT3, I am confident that Scuderia Corsa will defend our Championships this year,” said team owner Giacomo Mattioli.
“The GTD field has expanded this season to factory entries and we welcome the challenge.
“2017 marks the 70th anniversary for Ferrari and there is no better way to celebrate than success at the race track, where it all began.”
