Tom Dillmann has sustained an undisclosed injury following a late-race crash from the lead in Sunday’s Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
The Inter Europol Competition driver, who was seeking back-to-back LMP2 wins at the Canadian circuit, crashed hard into the Turn 3 wall on the final restart with 20 minutes to go after an apparent mechanical failure to his Oreca 07 Gibson.
While initially climbing out of the car, the Frenchman was placed on a stretcher and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
A statement from the Polish squad released on Sunday evening indicated that Dillmann was “okay” although Dillmann provided an update via social media that he will need a “bit of time to recover from an injury.”
“[The] main thing is that I’m gutted we did not take the win due to a mechanical failure after executing the perfect race,” he wrote. “Back to back [wins] was looking good.
“I will need a bit of time to recover from an injury but I will be back swinging ASAP, you can be sure.
“Thank you to everyone that helped me tonight, from the hospital, IMSA and my mate Kuba [Smiechowski].”
Dilmmann, who contests both the European Le Mans Series and WeatherTech Championship full-time, is next currently scheduled to race at Road America on Aug. 1-3.
