James French will make his return to LMP3 competition, having been confirmed with Performance Tech Motorsports in a reshuffled lineup for next weekend’s IMSA Fastline Sportscar weekend at Road America.
The Wisconsin native will team up with Dan Goldburg in the No. 38 Ligier JS P320 Nissan for the penultimate round of the LMP3 season, taking the seat most recently occupied by Rasmus Lindh.
Performance Tech’s lineup for the season-ending Motul Petit Le Mans is still “being ironed out” according to a team spokesperson.
French raced with the team intermittently for nearly a decade, having won the Prototype Challenge drivers’ championship alongside Pato O’Ward in 2017.
Most recently, he was a part of the team’s second place LMP2 class finish at Road America in 2020, while scoring a class win in last year’s Motul Petit Le Mans with Tower Motorsport.
“I’m ecstatic to be reuniting with Performance Tech to compete in my home race at Road America in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship,” said French.
“This will be the first IMSA race since winning the Petit Le Mans last season in LMP2, and I’m confident we will be fighting for a strong result here as well.
“It will be my maiden voyage in the EVO version of the Ligier JS P320, so I’m excited to see how the car feels after the updates, and how well we can navigate the gigantic GT field. Thank you to Brent O’Neill and all that have made this opportunity possible.”
Team principal Brent O’Neill added: “It’s really great to have James back. We’ve done so much with him over the years, from dominating championships to winning streaks, it’s like having a member of the family back.
“He meshes with everyone so naturally and is so at home at Road America, I know his addition to the weekend is going to be a big move.”
