Antonio Garcia led the way in the second of three practice sessions for IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competitors on Friday, following a late flyer by the Corvette Racing driver.
The Spaniard denied a BMW sweep of the session, having clocked a 50.302 lap time in the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R in the closing minutes of the 60-minute practice.
Garcia wound up 0.018 seconds quicker than Connor De Phillippi in the No. 25 BMW M8 GTE, with the sister No. 24 BMW of Jesse Krohn third in class.
The top times, however, were slower than Nick Tandy’s pace-setting 50.065 from the morning session, which was run in cooler conditions.
The pair of Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GTs completed the top-five, with both factory Porsche 911 RSRs bringing up the rear of the eight-car GTLM field.
CTMP Winners Auberlen, Turner Pace GTD
Bill Auberlen put the No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 on top in GT Daytona, thanks to a 51.715 lap time in the No. 96 BMW M6 GT3.
Auberlen wound up 0.093 seconds faster than the No. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3 of Toni Vilander, which battled back from a loose wheel early in the session to go second quickest.
Porsche Young Professional Dennis Olsen completed the top-three in the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R.
A third and final practice session is scheduled for 4:55 p.m. EDT today.
