Trent Hindman will replace Ryan Hardwick in the No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R for the remainder of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season beginning with next weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.
The 2019 GT Daytona class champion made his team debut in January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona subbing for Hardwick, who had sustained a concussion in an accident, and also was behind the wheel of the car at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring as the Bronze-rated driver continued his recovery.
A decision has now been made for Hardwick to focus on Michelin Pilot Challenge efforts, alongside Jan Heylen in the team’s Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, instead of pulling double duty between the two series.
Hardwick returned to GT Daytona class action at Mid-Ohio last month although the Wright entry was absent from the grid last weekend at Detroit, owing to its focus on the full season championship instead of the WeatherTech Sprint Cup.
It’s unclear if Hardwick or Heylen will be the team’s third driver for the upcoming Michelin Endurance Cup round on June 25-27.
The entry list for the six-hour enduro is due out later today.
