Defending Porsche Supercup champion Alessandro Ghiretti will make his GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS debut this season as part of a two-car Absolute Racing effort, along with fellow Porsche-contracted driver Bastian Buus.

The Hong Kong-flagged team will have a pair of Porsche 911 GT3 R Evos in the Pro-Am class for the six-round campaign that begins next weekend at Sepang.

The No. 911 car will be shared by Ghiretti, who is no stranger to Asian racing as he won the 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia title, and Bronze-rated Huang Ruohan, who moves across from Absolute’s Lamborghini effort.

Driving the sister No. 918 car will be Buus and experienced Thai driver Vutthikorn Inthraphuvasak, who returns to the series for the first time since 2024.

“First of all, I’m really happy to be back in Asia this year for GT World Challenge Asia,” said Ghiretti. “It’s a very special place for me. It’s where I won my first single-seater championship, the F4 SEA, back in 2018, and then again the Carrera Cup Asia in 2024.

“Now, to be racing in GT World Asia in GT3 machinery is something I’m really looking forward to, especially with a team I know well, Absolute Racing.

“I’ve been working with them for a couple of years now, and we also raced together in Malaysia at the 12 Hours, which has helped me prepare for what’s coming.

“I’m really excited for this new challenge, can’t wait to get started, and of course I’m aiming for strong results while enjoying every moment out there.”

Buus drove in four rounds of last year’s GTWC Asia for the Origine Motorsport Porsche squad alongside Lu Wei, scoring a win at Okayama and helping his co-driver to second in the overall drivers’ standings for the season.

The Danish driver was part of Absolute’s lineup for the Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour with Alessio Picariello and Matt Campbell, finishing sixth.

“It’s great to be working again with Vutthikorn Inthraphuvasak, as we already know each other from previous seasons,” said Buus, whose main program this year is in DTM.

“I won’t be present for every round of the championship, but I’m confident we can achieve something strong together and hopefully put Vutti in a position to fight for the overall title. That’s the clear objective for all of us.

“Now the focus is on making a solid start in Malaysia.”
