Iron Lynx to Campaign Huracan GT3 EVO2 in IMSA, GTWC Europe

Italian powerhouse team announces switch to Lamborghini GT3 effort ahead of 2023 season…

Iron Lynx will become a factory-supported Lamborghini outfit in GT3 competition next year, competing in the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup and Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS.

Announced Saturday at the Lamborghini Grand Finals in Portimao, the Italian team will make the switch from Ferrari machinery coinciding with the news that it will join forces with the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based manufacturer for its LMDh effort beginning in 2024.

The collaboration between the two parties, however, will start sooner, with Iron Lynx fielding three Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2s in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, including an entry for the Iron Dames.

It will then complete the remainder of the Endurance Cup season, contesting the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen and Motul Petit Le Mans with an Iron Lynx entry and the Iron Dames’ effort.

It has not been specified whether Iron Lynx will race in GTD Pro or GTD, although the former is expected.

Lamborghini’s Head of Motorsport Giorgio Sanna said last month that the manufacturer plans to have one car running in the all-professional category for the Endurance Cup rounds.

In addition to the U.S. effort, Iron Lynx will also campaign Lamborghini’s updated GT3 challenger in GTWC Europe Endurance Cup.

This will also be a three-car operation, with the No. 63 entry joined by a No. 19 car as well as the Iron Dames under No. 83.

While the LMDh deal will result in Iron Lynx switching its GT3 program from Ferrari to Lamborghini, it has not been confirmed whether the team will continue to run Ferraris in GTE next year.

The GTE formula is staying for one more season in the WEC, European Le Mans Series and 24 Hours of Le Mans but Lamborghini does not have a GTE car.

Iron Lynx recently tested Proton Competition’s Porsche 911 RSR-19s at Portimao but is yet to announce the next step for its GTE project.

“We are very happy to start this new chapter together with Lamborghini for Iron Lynx and the Iron Dames,” said Iron Lynx team principal Andrea Piccini.

“Since its debut in 2018 in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, the team has grown rapidly and has become increasingly competitive, putting together some extraordinary seasons.

“After a lot of work and preparation, we cannot wait to hit the track with Lamborghini and achieve more success.”

Since its founding in 2018, Iron Lynx has rapidly grown into a top-level sports car racing team in multiple categories.

Most notably, it has taken multiple victories in the 24 Hours of Spa, winning overall in 2021 and taking the Gold Cup class with the Iron Dames earlier this year.

Its GTE-Am effort saw it clinch last year’s European Le Mans Series teams’ title and a class podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while it has also won titles in Ferrari Challenge.

Iron Lynx expanded into prototype racing this year through a collaboration with single-seater stalwart Prema that resulted in a dominant ELMS title on its LMP2 debut.
