One of America’s rising star drivers is set for his TUDOR United SportsCar Championship debut next weekend at Virginia International Raceway.
Sportscar365 has learned that Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA front-runner Michael Lewis will join GB Autosport for the Oak Tree Grand Prix, teaming with full-season co-driver Damien Faulkner in the Tully’s Coffee-sponsored No. 81 Porsche 911 GT America.
The 23-year-old California native, who currently sits third in the GT3 Cup Platinum standings with three wins this season, fills in for regular co-driver Ben Barker, who will be on Porsche Supercup duty at Spa-Francorchamps that weekend.
“We’re excited to be part of Michael’s first TUDOR Championship start, especially in light of his success this season in GT3 Cup,” team principal Michael Avenatti told Sportscar365.
Lewis is recognized as one of the sport’s most promising up-and-coming drivers, having been awarded a scholarship by IMSA to race in GT3 Cup this year, prior to an extensive and successful stint of open-wheel competition in Europe.
GB Autosport currently sits 12th in the GT Daytona championship standings.
Avenatti, meanwhile, recently underwent back surgery and has been ruled out of the cockpit of the GTD class contender until early next year.
