Matt McMurry will join Park Place Motorsports for the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup rounds in 2016, alongside Patrick Lindsey and Joerg Bergmeister in the No. 73 Porsche 911 GT3 R.
The announcement marks the teenager’s move from the prototype ranks into GT Daytona. McMurry ran in both the Prototype (Michael Shank Racing) and Prototype Challenge (BAR1 Motorsports, JDC/Miller Motorsports) classes this past season.
At 18, he already has amassed more than 100 race starts throughout his career including the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans, and joins Park Place after a test last month.
“Matt was very quick initially; you can tell there is a lot of raw talent there,” said John Horton, Park Place Motorsports lead engineer. “Then he diligently progressed to an extremely fast lap time, which got our attention.”
“Being brought into the Park Place Motorsports and Porsche family, alongside its fast and experienced driver lineup, is a huge honor and that type of opportunity I’ve been working toward,” McMurry said.
“I love listening, learning and then applying all the knowledge in competition, and I can’t wait to get started in the all-new 911 GT3 R.”
