Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires champion, 2016 IndyCar rookie and de facto Mazda Road to Indy “poster boy” Spencer Pigot will join the lineup in the No. 70 Mazda Prototype at this week’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship two-day test in Daytona.

Pigot is expected to join Jonathan Bomarito, Tristan Nunez and Sylvain Tremblay over the course of the next two days in the now gasoline-powered prototype. Tom Long, who like Pigot was not listed on the pre-test entry list, may also test this week.

Pigot has some sports car experience, having tested a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car a few years ago in a Porsche Young Driver Academy at Barber Motorsports Park, raced a Mazda MX-5 car at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill and made his Rolex 24 race debut in a Mazda 6 in 2013.

He also starred in the Porsche GT3 Canada championship in 2014, when he finished third in the series with two wins. He also one won of two starts in 2013.

The 22-year-old Orlando native is confirmed for at least three IndyCar races next season with the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team, courtesy of a Mazda scholarship used for his advancement.
