Proton Competition will field a total of three WeatherTech-sponsored cars in GTD Pro at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, with the addition of a second Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.

WeatherTech, in association with Montana-based dealership Mercedes of Billings, will sponsor the No. 15 entry to be driven by Dirk Mueller, Patrick Assenheimer and Austin Cindric.

WeatherTech founder and CEO David MacNeil purchased the Mercedes dealership last July.

“The second Mercedes entry came about with Proton being contracted to prepare the car,” David MacNeil explained. “It was also an opportunity to have Mercedes of Billings to have a presence in the race as well.

“The Rolex 24 is a showcase for sports car racing around the world and is really the only on-track competition going on this time of year. We are excited to have a third WeatherTech liveried car on the grid for the 60th running of this great race.”

The No. 15 Mercedes joins the team’s two previously announced GTD Pro entries for the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opener.

Maro Engel, Jules Gounon, Dani Juncadella and Cooper MacNeil will pilot the No. 97 Mercedes, with MacNeil also set to drive the team’s season-long No. 79 Porsche 911 GT3 R alongside Julien Andlauer, Matteo Cairoli and Alessio Picariello.
