German team T3 Motorsport has announced plans to make its North American racing debut with a GT Daytona class entry into the Rolex 24 at Daytona next month.
The Dresden-based squad is set to run a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo in the opening round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship on Jan. 29-30.
It will do so in partnership with U.S-based open-wheel and Trans Am outfit Southern Motorsports, establishing a North American headquarters at Southern’s facility.
T3 Motorsport ran Southern Motorsports driver John Paul Southern Jr. in ADAC GT4 Germany this year and will repeat that arrangement for the 2022 season.
The team also competed in the DTM with two full-time Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evos for Esteban Muth and Esmee Hawkey, and in GT Masters with a single Lamborghini.
The driver lineup for its IMSA debut at Daytona is yet to be announced, while the team will sign up as T3 Motorsport North America for its U.S racing activities.
A statement released by team manager Jens Feucht read: “T3 Motorsport North America looks forward to translating their success from the GT platforms in Europe over to their new program in America.”
The T3 Motorsport Lamborghini effort is not to be confused with the two-car Rolex 24 entry from TR3 Racing which is also working with the Italian manufacturer.
