Team WRT is set for its Rolex 24 at Daytona debut as part of a combined effort with Speedstar Motorsport and Audi Canada for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opener.

Sportscar365 has learned that a single GT Daytona class entry has been submitted, provisionally under the Team WRT Speedstar banner, although the team name is still being finalized by its official entrant, Audi Canada.

It’s understood a deal to field the Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo was only reached earlier this month between the three parties, which will see an Audi Sport customer racing factory driver and young Canadian star as part of the team’s four-driver squad.

The Toronto-based Speedstar operation took part in the IMSA-sanctioned Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama series this year with Stefan Rzadzinski, who is Silver-rated by the FIA.

WRT and Speedstar’s commitment to Daytona comes after a successful partnership in last month’s FIA GT World Cup in Macau, when it fielded a pair of Audis under the Audi Sport Team WRT Speedstar banner for Dries Vanthoor and Robin Frijns, who finished fifth.

A formal announcement from Audi Canada on the new project is expected in the coming days.

WRT/Speedstar’s effort boosts Audi’s car count in the race to four, alongside entries from Montaplast by Land Motorsport, Starworks Motorsport and Moorespeed.
