Bryson Morris survived late pressure from Kiko Porto to take his and co-driver Loris Cabirou’s first Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America victory in the opening round of the weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to lead and ANSA Motorsports 1-2 finish.
Cabirou led an all-ANSA front-row at the drop of the green flag and jumped out to an early lead and dominated the opening half of the race. The French driver was investigated by race control for jumping the start and was only issued a warning.
Morris was able to survive a charging Porto, who brought the No. 4 ANSA Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 to within less than a second of the winning duo by the checkered flag.
TR3 Racing claimed the final step of the podium with Ernie Francis Jr. and Giano Taruino ahead of Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti’s Ryan Norman and Danny Formal, with Scott Huffaker competing the top-five in his solo-driven World Speed entry.
Hannah Grisham won in Pro-Am in her series debut for Forty7 Motorsports.
The Heart of Racing-backed driver put in an impressive stint in the second half of the race, ultimately passing MLT Motorsports’ Garrett Adams and Tom Capizzi on her way to victory in the No. 55 Lamborghini she shared with Keawn Tandon.
Tandon was locked in a tight battle the John Capestro-Dubets for the class lead in the early stages, with Andy Lee’s No. 14 Flying Lizard Motorsports able to enter the mix as a result.
However a ten-second penalty for contact with the No. 64 MLT Motorsports Lamborghini and two separate spins for Slade Stewart, one as a result of contact, dropped the Flying Lizard entry drop out of contention.
Adams came home second in Pro-Am with Patrick Liddy making up multiple positions in his No. 72 Forte Racing entry to complete the class podium.
In the Am class, Anthony McIntosh and Glenn McGee emerged victorious for WTRAndretti, despite losing the lead early in the race to Al Morey’s No. 17 Topp Racing Lamborghini.
Nick Groat look the win in LB Cup after early leader Jon Hirshberg suffered a puncture as a result of contact from Rodrigo Vales’ No. 34 TR3 racing Lamborghini on an attempted Turn 1 overtake.
Vales was issued a ten-second time penalty for incident responsibility.
Rocky T. Bolduc’s chances of an Am victory were erased despite leading after his pit stop after contact with the No. 24 ANSA Lamborghini of Seth Lucas, who retired with apparent suspension damage.
Bolduc was able to climb his way back up the order to finish second in class.
