John Capestro Dubets and Kyle Marcelli stormed to pole positions for the opening two rounds of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
A last-lap improvement from Capestro Dubets placed his Pro-Am class No. 46 Precision Performance Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 less than a tenth of a second ahead of Pro class pace-setter Danny Formal.
Capestro Dubets was more than a second clear of Pro-Am rival, Alexandre Premat, who set the third fastest time overall.
Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Norman will start Race 1 from fourth on the grid, having recorded the second fastest Pro class lap time.
Tyler Hoffman’s solo-driven PPM Lamborghini rounded out the top-five, claiming the Am class pole position in the process, with a 1:25.592.
Mark Wilgus took the LB Cup pole for Race 1 with he 15th fastest time of the first qualifying session.
With Q1 running cut short, Capestro Dubets was the only driver in the field to complete an eighth lap following the red flag brought out for the No. 88 TR3 Racing Lamborghini of Giano Taurino going off track at Turn 6.
At the checkered flag for first qualifying, only three Pro class cars found themselves within the top ten.
An uninterrupted Q2 saw Marcelli lead a WTR Andretti 1-2 atop the timing sheets. His 1:24.449 lap placed him just 0.002 seconds ahead of teammate Norman.
Lucas Petersson recovered from TR3’s Q1 woes, placing the No. 88 TR3 car fifth fastest overall and third-quickest in Pro.
Flying Lizard dominated the Pro-Am class, recording the three fastest lap times in the second session.
Marc Miller put his No. 41 machine half a second clear of Andy Lee to take the Pro-Am pole, as the Flying Lizard squad set the third and fourth fastest Q2 times.
Johannes van Overbeek’s 1:25.498 lap was enough to put him third-fastest in class, and sixth overall on the timing sheets.
PPM swept qualifying, with Rob Walker leading David Saab, while Jon Hirshberg will start Race 2 from the LB Cup pole for Forte Racing by USRT.
Race 1 is slated for 2:20 p.m. PT (5:20 p.m. ET) with live coverage on Peacock and IMSA.tv, featuring commentary from IMSA Radio.
