Danny Formal and Kyle Marcelli completed a weekend sweep with victory in the second Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America race at Road America in a contest that saw Ryan Norman eliminated in an incident at Canada Corner.
Formal started the race from second position aboard the No. 1 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2.
Stablemate Norman converted pole position into an early lead aboard the No. 84 car, but dropped to second position behind Marcelli due to a longer mandatory pitstop.
Norman then pressured Marcelli until the two drivers encountered a pair of back markers at Canada Corner with fifteen minutes remaining.
The No. 84 Lamborghini clipped Marcelli’s No. 1 car while swerving to the right in the braking zone before spinning on the grass and smashing into the Tiger Tari-driven No. 17 NTE Sport entry, eliminating both cars and causing a full course caution.
When the race was restarted, a chaotic, multi-car incident resulted in Rob Walker and AJ Muss becoming stranded at Turn 1, triggering a second yellow.
Marcelli took the checkered flag under yellow, leading home the Forty7 Motorsports cars of Joel Miller and Jake Walker to win.
It was Marcelli and Formal’s sixth consecutive win, marking a new series’ record.
Luke Berkeley and Keawn Tandon finished fourth and secured Pro-Am honors in the process aboard the No. 42 NTE Sport car, with Nate Stacy and Nick Persing completing the top five in the No. 8 WTR Andretti Lamborghini.
Nico Jamin and Sebastian Saavedra took sixth for ANSA Motorsports ahead of the Pro-Am pairing of Shehan Chandrasoma and Bryson Lew, despite an off-track moment for Chandrasoma shortly before the first caution.
The No. 14 Flying Lizard Motorsports Lamborghini of Andy Lee and Slade Stewart crossed the line in eighth, ahead of Am-class winners Anthony McIntosh and Glenn McGee.
The Precision Performance Motorsports duo ran second in class behind Dominic Starkweather for much of the race, until the Valkyrie Velocity driver became involved in an incident at the final restart.
In LB Cup, Mark Wilgus converted pole position to victory aboard the No. 50 Forte Racing by US RaceTronics car.
