Danny Formal held off a hard-charging Ryan Norman to continue his and Kyle Marcelli’s undefeated record in Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America competition in Saturday’s race at Road America.

Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport teammates Formal and Norman battled through traffic on a late-race restart with seven minutes to go.

The Costa Rican edged out Norman by 0.717 seconds at the line as the white flag was waved but was quickly replaced by a checkered flag as time expired on the 50-minute contest.

It marked Formal and Marcelli’s fifth victory out of five races this season in their No. 1 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2.

The No. 88 TR3 Racing Lamborghini of Lucas Petersson crossed the line in third but was handed a 40-second post-race time penalty for not serving a drive-through penalty.

It promoted the No. 30 ANSA Motorsports entry of Nico Jamin and Sebastian Saavedra to the Pro class podium finish.

A number of cars, including the top three running in Pro-Am that were in the overall lead at the time, pitted one lap following the final restart, as they had not yet performed their mandatory pit stop due to the race’s second lengthy yellow.

The No. 46 Precision Performance Motorsports Lamborghini of Pro-Am points leader John Capestro Dubets made heavy contact with the wall on the exit of Canada Corner with 22 minutes to go, leading to an extensive cleanup and dash to the finish.

An incident for Tom Tait brought out the first yellow early on and Marcelli, who was running fourth at the time, pitted in an undercut attempt on Lap 7, a move that put the Harrison Contracting Company-sponsored Lamborghini out front and set up co-driver Formal for the win.

Am class honors went to the No. 69 PPM Lamborghini of Anthony McIntosh and Glenn McGee, who finished seventh overall, ahead of the Pro-Am class-winning pairing of Luke Berkeley and Keawn Tandon of NTE Sport.

Graham Doyle, meanwhile, picked up his maiden win in LB Cup for WTR Andretti.

Race 2 is set to get underway Sunday at 1:35 p.m. CDT with live coverage on Peacock and IMSA.tv.
