P1 Motorsports has expanded its efforts in Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America with the addition of a second Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo alongside the returning entry spearheaded by team owner/driver JC Perez.
Perez will team with Loris Spinelli in the No. 71 Lamborghini in the Pro-Am class, with Jonathan Summerton and Karl Basz set to drive the No. 79 car in Pro.
It will mark the team’s return to Super Trofeo following Perez’s title in the LB Cup class, claiming seven out of 12 wins last year.
“In all honesty, I really want to show everything I learned; I have been racing almost every month, so I’m a completely different driver than what I was at the finals,” said Perez.
“I feel great, I really enjoy racing in America, there’s some really cool tracks that I showed true speed.
“Working with Chris Ward [Senior Manager, North American Motorsport for Lamborghini Automobili] is always great. As a team owner and driver, this series really does work for me and my team.”
Lamborghini Broward will continue with the Florid-based team as its dealer partner this year.
“The guys at Lamborghini Broward have been behind us since late 2017,” Perez said. “They are genuinely interested in our racing program and go above and beyond for us.
“We are working on some even bigger plans for 2018 with them. For us it’s all about a lengthy relationship with Lamborghini Broward.”
Perez, Spinelli Set for Super Trofeo Europe
In addition to Super Trofeo North America, Perez and Spinelli are set to compete in the highly competitive European single-make championship this year and are fresh off Pro-Am class victory last weekend in Monza.
“After having technical issues in qualifying and Race 1, we drove from P31 to P4 [overall], so people already know we fight until the checkered flag, ” said Spinelli.
“JC is by far one of the best Ams out there; he genuinely wants to get better and you can see it day in and day out, every time he gives his all.”
The six-round North America championship kicks off next weekend at Mid-Ohio.
P1’s expanded Super Trofeo program comes in addition to its entries in IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda as well as its Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup rounds of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
