Brandon Gdovic led the way in an incident-filled opening practice for Mustang Challenge at Road America.

Gdovic, in the No. 46 Precision Performance Motorsports Ford Mustang Dark Horse R, reeled off a best time of 2:23.529 in the 30-minute scheduled session.

It was 0.067 seconds quicker than the No. 26 Southern Paley Motorsports entry of Sam Paley, with Reid Sweeney third in his No. 31 Robert Noaker Racing Mustang.

Robert Noaker was fourth on the time sheets, ahead of the No. 2 Max Opalski Racing entry of Max Opalski, who completed the overall top-five.

Zachry Lee, meanwhile, led the way in the Dark Horse Legends category in his No. 48 McCumbee McAleer Racing Ford.

The session saw two red flags, the first for an incident by Dark Horse class points leader Tyler Maxson in Turn 7.

Maxson, in the No. 74 RNR Mustang, did not return to action in the session.

The No. 3 Spark Performance Ford of Tommy McGlynn brought out a second red after spinning into the tire barriers in Turn 3. He later continued and brought his car back to pit lane under its own power.

Practice 2 is on tap for Friday at 8:50 a.m. CDT, followed by qualifying at 1:20 p.m.
