Mustang Cup Leader Lucas to Make Series Debut at COTA

Mustang Cup points leader Will Lucas will step up to Mustang Challenge competition in next weekend’s event at Circuit of The Americas with Paley Motorsport.

The 21-year-old Georgian will pilot the No. 34 Ford Mustang Dark Horse R in the pair of 45-minute races in support of the FIA World Endurance Championship Lone Star Le Mans event.

Lucas has won seven races in the new-for-2025 USAC-sanctioned Mustang Cup this year.

“Sam has been a big part of my success this year in Mustang Cup, so it felt natural to join him at Paley Motorsport,” said Lucas.

“I’m really excited to be making my IMSA debut with Paley Motorsport and build off my results from Le mans earlier this year.”

Lucas took part in June’s Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational, finishing eighth and sixth in the pair of non-points races.

“Will and I have developed a fantastic rapport this year and I’m very excited to help facilitate his IMSA debut,” added Paley.

“Will joining Paley Motorsport further bolsters the strength of our program and he most definitely has the pace to compete for podiums.

“We’ve made phenomenal progress this season in the USAC Mustang Cup and I’m looking forward to continuing our relationship at the IMSA level.”

Paley, who made his return to the IMSA-sanctioned single-make series at Road America, missed last weekend’s rounds at Virginia International Raceway due to repairs stemming from an accident in Race 1 in Wisconsin.

The Ford Performance Junior Team driver is slated to be back with his No. 26 entry for COTA as well as the season finale at the Charlotte Roval on Oct. 3-4.
