Maxson Scores First Career Pole at Road America

Tyler Maxson claimed his first career Porsche Carrera Cup North America pole in a highly competitive qualifying session Friday afternoon at Road America.

Maxson reeled off a best lap of 2:07.829 in his No. 77 Topp Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car to edge out the No. 91 Kellymoss Porsche of Riley Dickinson by 0.025 seconds.

The top nine drivers were separated by less than a half-second in the 30-minute session.

The No. 2 ACI Motorsports entry of Jimmy Llibre will roll off third for Race 1, followed by Topp’s Ryan Yardley and JDX Racing driver Zachary Vanier, who completed the top-five.

Aaron Jeansonne qualified sixth in the No. 24 Kellymoss Porsche ahead of Jared Thomas of JTR Motorsports Engineering and ACI’s Yves Baltas, who completed the top-eight.

Pro-Am class honors went to the Kellymoss Porsche of Alan Metni, while Peter Atwater, of JTR Motorsports Engineering, wound up quickest in Masters.

The first Carrera Cup race of the weekend gets underway Saturday at 10:55 a.m. CST with live coverage on Peacock as well as Porsche Motorsport North America and IMSA’s YouTube channels.
