Tyler Maxson broke through to claim his first career Porsche Carrera Cup North America victory, leading a 1-2 finish for Topp Racing in Sunday’s round at Road America.
Maxson led the 40-minute contest from flag-to-flag, taking his No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car to the win over teammate Ryan Yardley, who inched closer to the lead of the Pro class points lead.
The race ended under a full-course caution when the No. 37 JDX Racing Porsche of Sabre Cook spun into the Turn 1 gravel with less than four minutes to go.
Maxson’s victory marked the sixth different winner in ten races this season.
Championship rival Riley Dickinson came home third in the No. 91 Kellymoss Porsche, who provisionally holds a narrow two-point lead over the Kiwi heading into next month’s rounds at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Zachary Vanier and Race 1 winner Jimmy Llibre completed the top-five for JDX Racing and ACI Motorsports, respectively.
The race featured an early race yellow when the No. 18 ACI Porsche of Richard Edge had contact with Todd Parriott’s No. 13 Kellymoss entry, sending Parriott hard into the wall in Turn 6.
The incident will be reviewed post-race by race control.
JP Martinez doubled up following his class victory on Saturday to take another win in Pro-Am in his No. 4 ACI entry, finishing ahead of the No. 99 Kellymoss Porsche of Alan Metni.
The Masters class, meanwhile, saw Scott Blind narrowly beat Richard Edge.
The No. 53 JTR Motorsports Engineering Porsche of Rob Walker suffered a spin at the start in Turn 1 and later retired, while Matheus Leist pitted with an apparent issue to his No. 47 Nolasport entry with 25 minutes to go.
Trouble also struck the No. 23 Nolasport Porsche of Michael Auriemma, who pulled off track near Turn 3 with an issue in the closing ten minutes.
It resulted in only three Masters class cars finishing the race, with Race 1 winner Peter Atwater completing the podium in third.
RESULTS: Race 2
