Robin Frijns is parting ways with Audi Sport after serving as a factory driver for seven years.
The Dutchman had been aligned with the German manufacturer since 2015, but confirmed in a post on social media that he has opted to depart the factory roster.
Frijns was not mentioned when Audi named its 14-driver works squad last month, although the manufacturer also made no reference to his departure in the announcement.
He most recently represented Audi during last year’s Nürburgring 24, winning the event teaming with Frederic Vervisch, Kelvin van der Linde and Dries Vanthoor.
Out of the four-man squad only Vervisch now remains part of Audi’s squad of factory drivers.
Frijns joins Van der Linde and Vanthoor as well as the likes of Rene Rast and Nico Mueller in an exodus of talent, primarily in the wake of the cancellation of Audi’s LMDh program.
In addition to his Nordschleife success, Frijns also took the overall and Sprint Cup championships in what was then called the Blancpain GT Series and won the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour with Team WRT.
A three-year stint in DTM with Abt Sportsline produced 15 podium finishes and three race victories, the latter coming as he challenged for the championship in the final year of the Class One ruleset.
The Dutchman retains ties to the Vincent Vosse-led WRT operation through an LMP2 program in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
