Mercedes-AMG has released a number of teaser images of a new GT concept car, which it describes as a “high-performance project” that “provides a preview of a possible expansion of the GT series with a V8 engine.”

The car, which the brand has named as the ‘Concept AMG GT Track Sport,’ is shown heavily camouflaged in the images, which were revealed by Mercedes-AMG on Friday.

It has said that the images “provide an exclusive glimpse into the future of the AMG GT family,” while also offering “an exclusive insight into the development workshop in Affalterbach.”

Mercedes-AMG is known to be currently working on a successor of its highly successful GT3 platform, with the new car slated for a customer debut in 2027.

The current Mercedes-AMG GT3, which originally debuted in 2016 before receiving an Evo update in 2020, currently remains active in the FIA World Endurance Championship, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Intercontinental GT Challenge, in addition to a number of continental and domestic championships around the globe.

The next-generation Mercedes-AMG GT3 platform is understood to be based on a derivative of its two-door Mercedes-AMG GT road car range, the most recent generation of which was introduced in 2023.

Development on the new car is being carried out by the brand’s Affalterbach Racing GmbH subsidiary, which was formed last year, with Mercedes-AMG’s head of customer racing Stefan Wendl previously indicating that initial track testing was due to begin in July.

When asked by Sportscar365, a Mercedes-AMG spokesperson declined to comment on whether or not the car in the images is the GT3 car, stating there is “more to come within the next months.”
