Jacob Abel will make his LMP2 debut as part of Vector Sport RLR’s lineup for the Asian Le Mans Series.

The Kentucky native, who competed in the NTT IndyCar Series with Dale Coyne Racing this year, will pilot the No. 70 Oreca 07 Gibson alongside Daniel Schneider and Vlad Lomko.

Abel, although new to LMP2 competition, has some sports car racing experience dating back to his time forming part of the HPD (now HRC US) GT3 Academy.

“I am very excited for the challenge of the Asian Le Mans Series,” said Abel.

“The Vector Sport RLR team has built a great programme and I am eager to hit the track and get started.

“There will certainly be a learning curve with new circuits, but I am very confident my experience will help me get up to speed quickly and ultimately help the team achieve strong results.”

Brazilian racer Schneider, who fulfills the role of the mandatory Bronze-rated driver, is also new to the team, having previously competed with United Autosports.

He steps into the lineup after John Falb was originally listed as the first driver for the No. 70 car on September’s provisional entry list. The American will instead be driving for Algarve Pro Racing.

Lomko is the only driver out of the three to have driven for Vector before, forming part of the European Le Mans Series crew that finished fourth in the LMP2 standings thanks to a pair of podium finishes.

“Vector Sport RLR’s three drivers give a great mix of speed, experience and maturity; they all understand endurance racing well and know that we have to be in the race when it really matters,” said team principal Gary Holland.

“The Asian Le Mans Series has an impressive entry list and we know most of the teams from racing them at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the European Le Mans Series, so we know the challenges that are waiting.”
