Algarve Pro Racing has announced it will field two cars in the LMP2 class in the upcoming 2025/26 Asian Le Mans Series season as it seeks to defend its title.
The Portuguese squad has firmed up plans to campaign a pair of Oreca 07 Gibsons in the six-round campaign that begins at Sepang in Malaysia on Dec. 13-14, subject to both entries being accepted by the series’ selection committee.
Algarve took the 2024/25 LMP2 title with the No. 25 Oreca shared by Peugeot Hypercar star Malthe Jakobsen, Valerio Rinicella and Michael Jensen, which won three of the six races, earning an automatic invite to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the process.
The sister No. 20 car shared by Olli Caldwell, Alex Quinn and Kriton Lendoudis ended up fourth overall with a single victory.
Drivers for the two cars will be announced a later date.
Team principal Stewart Cox commented: “Algarve Pro Racing will enter two cars in the 2025/26 Asian Le Mans Series, and we will announce our driver line-up in due course. It has always been a serious championship that’s hard to win.
“There’s a lot of talk about which teams and drivers will be on the grid and nobody goes to mess around – everybody wants to win it.
“Of course, we have pretty much been there from the beginning and we’re going with the mindset to win, extending our record as a five-time Asian Le Mans Champion and secure another 24 Hours of Le Mans entry.
“There’s no real secret to winning – preparation is the key to everything, because there is a lot of running in a short space of time and cars get a lot of abuse. However, we turn up to every round with cars that are built to do a 24-hour race.
“Frustratingly, a mistake cost us a one-two in the 2024/25 championship, but you learn and it’s something that won’t happen again.”
