Leipert Motorsport has been stripped of its GT class victory in Sunday’s Asian Le Mans Series season-ending 4 Hours of Abu Dhabi, as one of a number of teams to fall victim to post-race drive time penalties.
The Marco Mapelli, Brendon Leitch and Gabriel Rindone-driven No. 19 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2, which crossed the line first in class, has been demoted to seventh following a 1 minute and 43-second penalty for Rindone exceeding his drive time.
As a result, it has handed the win to the No. 88 Triple Eight Race Engineering Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Luca Stolz, Jordan Love and Prince Abdul Rahman Ibrahim.
The adjustment did not have an impact on the class championship, with Pure Rxcing’s Porsche 911 GT3 R promoted to a second place class finish.
Seven other cars received post-race time penalties, including the second-placed overall finishing No. 34 Nielsen Racing Oreca 07 Gibson due to Patrick Liddy not completing his minimum drive time, which has dropped it off the podium.
It gave the No. 55 Proton Competition Oreca a runner-up result, ahead of the No. 30 Duqueine Team entry in third.
The penalties come in the wake of a red flag during the race that impacted several teams’ strategies, particularly related to minimum and/or maximum drive time.
