Olli Caldwell led the second and final Free Practice session for Saturday’s 4 Hours of Aragon, which took place under the cover of darkness.
The British driver piloted the No. 43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca 07 Gibson to a best lap of 1:48.316, 0.143 seconds faster than Cool Racing’s Jose Maria Lopez.
Neel Jani completed the top three in the No. 30 Duqueine Team Oreca, 0.207 seconds down on Caldwell.
The second 90-minute practice session took place in darkness, in order to allow drivers to prepare for the unusual conditions in Saturday’s four-hour enduro.
The race, the first for the European Le Mans Series at the Spanish circuit, starts at 6 p.m. CEST (12:00 p.m. EDT) and will run into the evening, finishing in the dark.
The LMP2 Pro-Am class was led by the No. 21 United Autosports Oreca of Filipe Albuquerque, who ended the session fourth overall with a best time of 1:48.670.
After the Portuguese driver set his time, the car triggered the session’s first and only Full Course Yellow when Bronze-rated driver Daniel Schneider went off at Turn 5. The car returned to the track later in the session.
Paul-Loup Chatin rounded out the top five for IDEC Sport ahead of Algarve Pro Racing’s James Allen and the No. 37 Cool Racing machine driven by Malthe Jakobsen.
Pedro Perino set the pace in the LMP3 category, posting a 1:54.058 aboard the No. 4 DKR Engineering Duqueine D08 Nissan.
Glenn van Berlo was second in the No. 10 Eurointernational Ligier JS P320 Nissan, with Oscar Tunjo third in the No. 12 WTM Racing by Rinaldi Duqueine.
Matteo Cairoli led the GTE class behind the wheel of the No. 60 Iron Lynx Porsche 911 RSR-19, with Matt Griffin and Nicklas Nielsen second and third for Spirit of Race and Formula Racing.
Qualifying for the 4 Hours of Aragon takes place Saturday at 10:15 a.m. CEST (4:15 a.m. EDT).
