There had been doubts about the presence of Murphy Prototypes in the European Le Mans Series and 24 Hours of Le Mans, until today, which has seen the Greg Murphy-led team reveal a double program for 2014. (En Français)
The Irish squad’s Oreca 03 Nissan is present in the paddock at Paul Ricard for this week’s official European Le Mans Series test. Tor Graves and Rodolfo Gonzalez will pilot the LMP2 car in the five-round championship.
Thailand native Graves moves from G-Drive Racing, which fielded a similar Oreca 03 Nissan in the FIA World Endurance Championship last year, while Gonzalez, who serves as a test driver for Marussia F1, has also been confirmed in the No. 48 car.
Murphy’s third driver for Le Mans has not yet been announced, although it’s understood team boss Greg Murphy, who is listed as the nominated driver, will not take part. Former F1 driver Karun Chandhok, who drove for the team in the 24-hour last year, is being mentioned as a possible candidate.
The ELMS will not be the only program on Murphy’s plate as the team has also revealed intentions of competing in the Asian Le Mans Series with an expected second Oreca 03 Nissan prototype.
