Bent Viscaal will join Proton Competition at the European Le Mans Series double header at Portimao, racing in place of the injured Gianmaria Bruni.
The Dutchman will partner up with Giorgio Roda and Jonas Ried aboard the LMP2 Pro-Am-entered No. 99 Oreca 07 Gibson for this weekend’s pair of four-hour races, which will serve to close out the 2023 campaign.
Proton stated in a post on social media that Bruni is ‘taking a short break’ due to a tweaked shoulder, which has forced him to step down from the event.
Viscaal, who also competes with Prema in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s LMP2 class, previously joined Algarve Pro Racing for the Aragon and Spa rounds.
He replaced Jack Hawksworth, racing alongside Fred Poordad and Tristan Vautier due to IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship commitments for the British driver.
Proton currently sits seventh in the Pro-Am standings, retiring from the most recent round at Spa.
The double header event the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve will kick off Friday at 2:45 p.m. CEST (8:45 a.m. EDT) with the 4 Hours of Algarve, before concluding with the 4 Hours of Portimao on Sunday.
