Inter Europol Competition has revealed that its No. 34 Oreca 07 Gibson will be piloted by just two drivers in the European Le Mans Series this year after announcing Reshad de Gerus will race the car but Tom Blomqvist will not.
Earlier versions of the ELMS entry list had stated that Acura IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship racer Blomqvist would share the No. 34 machine with Bijoy Garg and a yet-to-be-confirmed third driver.
But the team has now confirmed that de Gerus will join the squad, having previously driven for Duqueine and IDEC Sport in the category, to partner Garg.
However, there was no explanation for Blomqvist’s absence from the lineup.
Inter Europol powered Nick Yelloly, Tom Dillmann and Jakub Smiechowski to runner-up in last year’s ELMS table in the sister car, which also took victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and that trio will continue behind the wheel of the No. 43 Oreca.
“In car No. 43 we have the same lineup as last year, so the objective is clear — to fight for the ELMS title,” said team boss Sascha Fassbender.
“For car No. 34 we have two young drivers with Bijoy, who continues to show his strong commitment to the team through his programmes in IMSA, Asian LMS, ELMS and Le Mans. As a Silver driver he has great talent and will be strong for us.
“Reshad already has good experience for his age, having competed in several ELMS seasons and showing impressive pace, including multiple pole positions.
“With the two-driver lineup we will have some interesting strategic possibilities during the season, and I hope we can achieve strong results with both cars across the championship.”
