Genesis Magma Racing has revealed the livery it will use on its No. 17 GMR-001 this year as the manufacturer makes its debut in the Hypercar class of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Genesis has used a variety of different color schemes during its extensive testing ahead of its rookie campaign but has opted for a predominantly gray design for the No.17 machine with flashes of the orange that has been associated with the Magma brand.
The livery incorporates the South Korean flag as a nod to the manufacturer’s heritage and also includes Korean Hangeul lettering that spells ‘Magma’ as well as ‘GMR’.
“While applying our design philosophy principle ‘athletic elegance’ to the livery, we focused on respecting the shapes of GMR-001 Hypercar and its details such as the Two-Line headlights and the parabolic line in the body,” explained Luc Donckerwolke, president and chief creative officer of parent company Hyundai Motor Group.
“As a Korean manufacturer, we also wanted to honour our roots and heritage by utilizing the word ‘magma’ written in Hangeul, the Korean alphabet.
“Throughout the design evolution, this element became a strong graphic identifier that we decided to use not only for GMR-001 Hypercar but also for our garage, structures and team uniforms.”
Genesis revealed the driver lineups for its inaugural WEC season at the end of last year with development drivers Andre Lotterer and Pipo Derani paired with series debutant Mathys Jaubert in the No. 17 GMR-001 while the sister car will be driven by ex-Porsche driver Mathieu Jaminet, Alpine recruit Paul-Loup Chatin and GT racing ace Dani Juncadella.
However, it has not yet been announced whether the manufacturer will use two or three drivers per car for next month’s Imola season opener.
Sportscar365 understands a decision has been made for the first round but not for any of the shorter six-hour races beyond that.
