Neel Jani will complete Proton Competition’s lineup for its Hypercar entry in the FIA World Endurance Championship, starting with the 6 Hours of Monza next month.

The 2016 Le Mans winner will team up with the previously confirmed duo of Harry Tincknell and Gianmaria Bruni aboard the No. 99 Porsche 963.

Jani currently drives an Oreca 07 Gibson for Duqueine Team in the European Le Mans Series and competed with 99 Racing in the Asian Le Mans Series earlier this year.

The Swiss driver will return to the cockpit of a top-class Porsche for the first time since the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship finale in Bahrain.

Jani raced as part of Porsche’s LMP1 program from 2014 to 2017, securing both an overall Le Mans victory and the World Endurance Drivers’ Championship alongside Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb in 2016.

He also competed for the factory Porsche GTE-Pro squad in 2021 and then joined Cadillac squad Chip Ganassi Racing to win the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring last year.

At Monza, Proton Competition will be the second team to enter a customer Porsche 963 in the WEC’s top category after Hertz Team JOTA.

Team boss Christian Ried previously told Sportscar365 that Proton is due to receive its first chassis shortly following this weekend’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, targeting “four to six days” of testing before the car makes its race debut in Italy.
